Dubai, UAE: American School of Dubai: 2022-2023 Fact Sheet [1] [] Date: 2023-02 The American School of Dubai (ASD) is an independent, not-for-profit American community school, dedicated to challenging and inspiring students to achieve their dreams and becoming a passionate learner prepared to adapt and contribute in a rapidly changing world. The school was founded in 1966 and serves 2,031 students from 80 countries on a purpose-built campus opened in August 2010. The school year is from late August to early June. Organization: The school is governed by a self-appointed board of trustees. The superintendent is responsible to the board for the overall management and operation of the school. Curriculum: A U.S. standards-based curriculum is offered which includes: English/language arts, mathematics, science, social studies, Arabic, French, Spanish, physical education, music (including vocal and instrumental), and art. Classroom instruction is in English. The school is divided into three divisions consisting of an elementary school (PreK-grade 5), middle school (grades 6-8), and high school (grades 9-12). The classes are small, with an average class size of 18-20 students, providing for individual attention to each child. The student’s school day begins at 8:15 am until 3:15 pm, Sunday through Thursday. The school is accredited by Middle States Association of Colleges & Schools. Faculty: In the 2022-2023 school year, ASD has 355 total staff including 217 teachers, 125 of whom are U.S. citizens, 0 host-country nationals, and 92 third-country nationals representing Afghanistan, Australia, Bahrain, Belgium, Cameroon, Canada, Colombia, Cyprus, Egypt, France, Hungary, Germany, India, Iran, Iraq, Ireland, Italy, Jordan, Kenya, Lebanon, Malaysia, Mexico, Nepal, Netherlands, New Zealand, Nigeria, Pakistan, Philippines, Romania, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Spain, Sri Lanka, Sudan, Switzerland, Tanzania, Ukraine, and UK. Enrollment: In the start of 2022-2023 school year enrolment was 2,031. Of the total, 1,015 are U.S. citizens, 22 are host-country citizens, and 994 are third-country citizens. Facilities: In 2010, the school expanded from its Jumeirah location to a 23-acre site that consists of three main buildings in 2010. The Al Barsha campus offers 100 classrooms, two libraries, two multi-purpose gymnasiums, and a purpose built 630 seat performing arts theatre. The facilities provide for band and choir, five art rooms, four science labs, four computer labs, a video & broadcasting studio, and two cafeterias. The campus also includes one regulation and two practice baseball diamonds, two outdoor basketball courts, grassed playing fields, six tennis courts, several outdoor playgrounds, a fitness center to include an indoor climbing wall, two 25-meter swimming pools, and covered parking. In 2020, the school added PreK program to allow entry for 3-year old learners into an active K-12 community and to benefit from connections to older learners, world-class facilities, and extra-curriculars. Finances: In the 2022-2023 school year tuition rates are: Pre-KG: $15,250; KG1: $16,136; KG2: $17,615; and grades 1-12: $22,490. There is a facility fee of $3,535 per year for K2-12. The school also charges a one-time capital fee of $5,991 (payable over three years). Fees are payable in UAE Dirhams. (All fees are quoted in U.S. dollars.)
