Istanbul, Türkiye: Istanbul International Community School: 2022-2023 Fact Sheet [1] [] Date: 2023-02 The Istanbul International Community School (IICS) is a non-profit, coeducational, private school established to serve the international community of Istanbul, with English as the language of instruction. The school celebrated its centenary in 2011 and serves a population of approximately 500 students representing over 60 nationalities from preschool to grade 12. IICS was one of the first schools in the world and the first in Turkey to be authorized by the International Baccalaureate to provide all three IB programs. Organization: IICS operates as a fully owned subsidiary of a U.S. registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, governed by a board of directors which includes the head of school (ex-officio), the PTA president, and a faculty representative (both voting members). The board includes elected and self-perpetuating members. Curriculum: IICS is accredited by the European Council of International Schools, the New England Association of Schools and Colleges, and is authorized to offer the three programs of the International Baccalaureate Curriculum Program (Primary Years, Middle Years, and Diploma Programs). IICS is one of the oldest IB and international schools in the world. Faculty: In the 2022-2023 school year, IICS has 125 total staff including 76 teachers, 25 of whom are U.S. citizens, 11 host-country nationals, and 40 third-country nationals. Enrollment: At the start of 2022-2023, enrollment was 468, of whom 99 were U.S. citizens, 60 host-country nationals and 309 were third-country nationals. Facilities: The main, purpose-built Marmara campus (early years-grade 12) is 25 miles west of the city center amid rolling hills, overlooking a large lake. Facilities at the Marmara Campus include: a 335 square meter completely automated and newly expanded library with computer stations, a double gymnasium, two multi-purpose sports salons, 1,760 square meter in total outdoor basketball and tennis courts, 2,730 square meters in total, a 6,230 square meter soccer pitch, 13,000 square meter spacious playground for primary and secondary students, three science labs, an 82 square meter design technology lab, a 264 square meter theater with 320 seats, an outside amphitheater, a 289 square meter visual arts building, two music rooms 195 square meters in total, an Early Childhood Center for students three to five years old, with a separate 409 square meter indoor space, a 600 square meter outdoor playground, a 85 square meter cafe with 30 seats, a 100 square meter multipurpose room with 50 seats, a recently renovated cafeteria with 280 seats and a panoramic view, a 490 square meter seating area, and a 350 square meter kitchen. All of this is situated on a 16-hectare campus. Finances: In the 2022-2023 school year, the school’s income is primarily derived from tuition, grants and contributions from sponsoring corporations. The fees and tuition rates are as follows: application fee – $1,160, capital levy fee – $6,565, enrollment fee- $5,250 and/or $8,250, Tuition Fee – EY3-4 $10,500, EY5 $16,750, G1 to G3 $19,000, G4 to G6 $20,250, G7 to G8 $22,250, G9 to G10 $23,250, G11 to G12 $24,250.
