U.S. national cricket team stuns Pakistan [1] [] Date: 2024-06-07 19:52:08+00:00 The U.S. national cricket team upset Pakistan in a World Cup match in Grand Prairie, Texas, June 6. “All credit to the USA,” Pakistan captain Babar Azam graciously said, adding that the Americans performed well in their batting, bowling and fielding departments — “and that’s why they won.” Pakistan, a three-time World Cup finalist, is a formidable opponent to any team. The uneven matchup made the victory — powered by the bat of Aaron Jones — all the sweeter for U.S. players. Captain Monank Patel told the Associated Press that “beating Pakistan, you know, it’s a big achievement.” Cricket is gaining popularity in the U.S., and by hosting the International Cricket Council Men’s T20 World Cup for the first time, U.S. organizers hope to ignite interest among American fans. (In addition to its win over Pakistan, the U.S. defeated Canada in the opening match of the tournament, which runs from June 1 through June 29.)
