As for yesterday, while the loss of Rodney hurt like hell, this game was a stinker for the Pats in every single area of the game. In the second half the d-line did nothing, the offense couldn't get a first down, and, well, the Chargers looked pretty damn good. I know nothing about this woman, but there have been many non-judges on the supreme court in the past. Sen. Patrick Leahy has frequently urged that Bush nominate someone who had no judicial experience, as has Sen. Spector. That in and of itself is a good thing, IMO. But I know nothing about this woman. I skipped a lot of well know acts I have seen in the past, so the bluegrass stage was out of the picture most of the weekend for me, except for a few glances here and there (Steve Earle's hardly strictly bluegrass set was fantastic IMO). But I was on a mission to be turned and wow, was I turned on. The highlights were as follows for me: Todd Snider (this guy makes the stale genre of folk music come alive---what an amazing rap and what an amazing writer---he put me in a head space that I've never been before) Steve Earle, Dave Alvin, Joe Ely, Guy Clark and Verlon Thompson--Songwriter Circle (sorry, but it was foolish for anyone to miss this set---Verlon Thompson really stood out as a writer and an amazing guitarist) Guy Clark (one of the greatest Texas poets and songwriters period-- what a privilege to see his beautiful set with Verlon on guitar---stunning!---the most moving segment of the weekend for me) Los Super Seven w/Calexico (the most innovative set of the entire 2000 weekend IMO) Jimmie Dale Gilmore (yes, what a voice) Dolly (cheesy, bad sound, staged, etc...but it was Dolly after all and this gal knows how to work a crowd---her references to all the pot smoking were hilarious) ....I'm sure I'm missing some others, but these are what came to me off the top of my head. Seeing Tony Rice on stage was a treat of course. I figured it would be cheesy, but you are right, she knows how to work a crowd. She's not an empty headed big boobed bimbo, she is a first class entertainer. She goofed on Chris Thile when I saw her. She made a couple suggestive remarks to him that were pretty funny. Did she do her "patched coat" rap? I remember getting wrapped up in the cheese and wanting to stand up and scream "don't let 'em bring you down Dolly!" Then, I realized it was part of the show. She can spin a good story.
