George was talking about phrases that piss him off, specifically within the airline industry, and he mentions "Uniformed Crew Member". George says and "this differs how from the guy sitting next to me in the Grateful Dead t-shirt and Fuck You cap who's on his 9th Kahlua"? Later, when the Uniformed Crew Member instructs George to put his seatback in the original upright position, he goes "sure, but who's going to restore the guy in the Grateful Dead t-shirt and Fuck You cap to his original upright position"? Funny show, too bad I fell asleep. ------------------------------ From: "Rogues Island's finest" Subject: Re: Dead Sighting (or Dead Mention) Date: 10 Oct 2005 06:07:16 -0700 When did Sweetbac fly with Carlin?? I couldn't agree more that Pigpen was "the right guy for the time" --- he was almost as much of an attraction as Jerry was at the time (at least in my circle of friends); he was the guy who sang the party numbers, the ones you danced to. The Band played after RatDog, and I was completely stoked for the MSG run that fall, after hearing Jerry was getting some treatment. Turns out, it was also the last song I heard the Band play before Danko passed. That was a great afternoon in Central Park. Anyway, how much cake should I expect to drop on this baby? (NDC) Date: 10 Oct 2005 09:40:18 -0700 How many Bush administration officials does it take to change a light bulb? Thirteen: 1) One to deny that the light bulb needs to be changed; 2) One to attack the patriotism of anyone who says the light bulb needs to be changed; 3) One to blame Clinton for burning out the light bulb; 4) One to arrange the invasion of another country under the pretense that said country has a secret stockpile of light bulbs; 5) One to give a billion dollar no-bid contract to Halliburton for the installation of a new light bulb; 6) One to arrange a photograph of George Bush dressed as a janitor under the banner "Light Bulb Change Accomplished"; 7) One to resign and write a book documenting in detail how Bush was literally in the dark; 8) One to viciously smear #7; 9) One to repeatedly declare that Bush has had a strong light-bulb-changing policy all along; 10) One to declare that using more efficient light bulbs is a personal virtue but not an energy policy; 11) One to declare that we'll have to drill in protected areas offshore and in Alaska to keep the less efficient light bulb lit; 12) One to declare that you light the room with the light bulbs you have, not the light bulbs you want; 13) And finally, one to confuse Americans about the difference between screwing a light bulb and screwing the country. ------------------------------ From: "RickNBarbInSD" Subject: Re: Watchya Listenin' To Lately? Date: 10 Oct 2005 10:10:57 -0700 Yesterday I went to the annual post-Burning Man multiple-block party in SF called "Decompression" - always a lot of fun with much artwork, live music, etc. At one point well into the party my friends and I wondered over to one of the many music stages where a band I wasn't familiar with called Albino was in high afro-beat music gear. They were quite good, and with their large percussion and horn sections they sounded A LOT like Fela Kuti - clearly they were heavily influenced by him. They also had fire dancers on stage throughout the set - really cool. At one point well into the set they segued into a classic Fela tune/jam vehicle, "Gentleman", and they nailed it - killer music to dance to, and the crowd was totally into it. And there were two beautful women on the stage fire-dancing in time with the music as well. Very cool and big fun - it was one of those situations/times where everyone who was there knew that they were in the right place at the right time. BTW Fela's gone but his son Femi carries the family torch and puts on a very good highly-Fela-influenced live performance as well - recommended.
