Does anybody think it would be peculiarly appropriate/GD'ish if there were an unpremeditated semi-spontaneous "decision" to create a backup Archive, but by a lot of people piling on and sending huge amounts of music to one unsuspecting but deserving soul? Silly, I know, and sure it's more 2000 practical for at least a couple people who I think have acquired it all for themselves, but it's kinda amusing to think of these loads of music showing up on Steve's doorstep. Although I stopped archiving to CDR a while back, in favor of DVD+Rs, I keep a spindle or two of CDRs on-hand for burning freebies for friends. They're the cheapo Staples brand, and in almost two years of using those for freebies, not one person has had a problem playing them or had a disc go bad -- and that's even with them being burned at 40x thru 52x... A big tip 'o the hat to Nick for turning me onto the Staples discs when he did a freebie for me ages ago. ~Ted ------------------------------ From: "Rupert" Subject: Re: India CDRs? Date: 26 Oct 2005 19:35:23 -0700 Yes, it's true that the Japanese Fuji's are the bomb. But let's remember that it's JUST the Japanese-made discs, and not Fuji's in particular. The Japanese discs are made by Taiyo Yuden, which apparently, is Japanese for "Cadillac" because these discs rock. You can usually find TY discs online, wether they are Fuji's or not. Don't be fooled into buying Fuji's, though, if you don't know where they're from, as they also make a lot of them in Tawain. I just bought some TY blank DVD's online for a great price :)~ ------------------------------ From: kpnnews@yahoo.com Subject: Re: cream bt Date: 26 Oct 2005 19:38:55 -0700 JC Martin wrote: > kpnnews@yahoo.com wrote: > > GemAmber wrote: > > > >>So, who's jumping on this to offer up for the challenged??? > >> > >>just curious..... > > > > > > I saw it, but I had to make a decision since my hard drive was nearing > > full capacity. Going from memory (not at my PC) - Mouzon on drums, and I think Sonny Fortune on sax. I forget the bassist. 2 discs, four songs, quartet. Looked like a winner to me, FM to boot. I have some Memorex DVD-Rs that are at least five or six years old that still play fine (they're made by Ritek as well). I've also gone through spindles of TDKs w/out a problem. For DVD+R(DL), I use Verbatim -- they're cheap, and there haven't been any compatibility problems with various friends' standalone players. I recently bought a spindle of unbranded Taiyo Yuden 16x DVD+Rs, but my drives only recognize them as 8x (even though the sindle insert clearly had them labeled as 16x). And on the opposite side of the fence, I've found that Fuji 8x DVD+/-Rs all burn at 16x. Go figure... ~Ted ------------------------------ From: The Lord of Eltingville Subject: Re: What are the best DVDs for burning? This is not one of the best audience recordings out there, folks. The taper was a ways from the sound array, and I believe it was a stealth setup, so there is a fair bit of "band in a barrel" effect. But it is listenable. One disc for flac files, or two discs for audio CDs. Judy, email me your preferred format and address and I will get these out to you no b and no p. I can take a few more if people want to spread them around. Flac files I will do no b and no p. If anyone wants audio files, I will do those b and p. Email me preferred format and address.
