The Pubnix History Project is a repository of materials and writings about the history of Public Access UNIX and GNU/Linux Systems. At the curent time, the writings consist of a paper written by user cmccabe of sdf.org and rawtext.club, a list of pubnix systems (active and retired), and any other supporting materials that we have found. One of the most useful sources of information about the oldest systems was a set of USENET postings called "nixpub" lists. Before the www made it easy to search for "list of free shell providers" or similar queries, the nixpub lists were shared on USENET to give people an idea of what systems were out there and how to reach them. The lists were like a phonebook for pubnix systems. Contact cmccabe@rawtext.club for more information.
