Ambitious goals --------------- I spent awhile reading "The Friendly Orange Glow" yesterday. It's a pretty solid book about the history of computing and all the technologies that were innovated earlier than is commonly known by a research group at Urbana-Champaign that was trying to figure out how to use computers to teach classes all the way back in the '60s. One of the main things the book keeps making me think about, though, is how much you can actually do if you let yourself be intensely ambitious and encourage people to just try shit and be creative. It's been giving some focus to what I want to keep doing in my non-profit work. Sometimes I feel like I get dragged down by how small everyone thinks, how many people have just already given up on trying anything that would actually be transformative. I don't want to be like that.
