Seeing patterns =============== I've beeen having one of those gut feelings when it comes to a project idea, the kind of gut feeling that tells me I'm onto something interesting if only I can make time for it. That's the difficulty of course with projects that are big, hard, and feel important, but have no deadlines or external urgency: they tend to slip back again and again and then you realize entire years have gone by. For reasons my fault and reasons outside my control I feel like I have a bunch of those weighing me down, more than I could finish in a lifetime. So, obviously, some of them just are never going to get done. I want to pick up and do the ones that are relavent *now*. So what's on my mind? String diagrams, monoidal categories, and patterns in Tidal and other live coding environments. I think there's a way of finally locking down the algebra of these things, or at least exploring it in a more rigorous and transportable way. I need to just actually make time and not let this be another fucking insight I have that other people catch up to five years from now.
