Zine fest in Olympia 9/12/2023 ==================== Over the weekend we did something kinda unusual for the past few years: we took a bus outta town and went up to Olympia WA for a couple of days. My partner, Tor, had gotten invited to table at a zine fest that was happening at the main Olympia library and they were feeling just good enough after all the operations and anti-biotics that we decided to head up there. It's a funny little town. The "historic district" reminded me a lot of Portland in the 00s, both the good and bad. I think mostly seeing an actual anarchist coffee shop made me miss how we used to have spaces like that. On the other hand, Tor's zine selling went great and they ended up selling like 40 copies of zines which might not sound like a lot but is pretty good for just a few hours in a parking lot in a town of 50k people total. The library itself bought a few of their zines to include in their collection, including their most popular one "Testosterone is for Girls, Too"---a radical trans zine about genderfuck transition goals. We wore masks the whole time and the bus home was barely full but I'm still a little anxious that we could have picked up covid and will be until the like 48ish hour period that omicron strains show symptoms in passes. It would be helpful if pdx wasn't having a huge weather shift so allergies are hell and a half. Yes, I know that allergies feel different than covid but tell that to someone who hasn't gotten sick in so many years I feel like I don't even remember what illness is like now.
