As much as I could be seen as defending Prometheus and its sequel in my previous replies, I actually tend to agree with your take here - as a series, it's not that strong. The first two movies might be all time classics, but everything else was all over the place, and trying to explain (or, as the case may be, hint at) the origins of the xenomorphs or otherwise tie everything together with some greater meaning, seems like a misstep. The *next* Alien movie "Romulus" looks like its drawing largely from the first movie. One of those "it's not really a remake, technically" type of things that are popular in the video game world.
