I've probably told this anecdote on here before, but I had a very similar experience with The Matrix. My brother and I had always kind of rooted for Keanu Reeves since Bill & Ted, and Johnny Mnemonic from earlier in the decade is kind of a guilty pleasure. Saw the trailer - didn't know WTF it was supposed to be, just a lot of action scenes, so one day we just kind of randomly decided to go see it. Blown away. None of my friends had seen it; like, no one was talking about it at first... but that didn't last too long. un> This is the problem with well established IP, the audience somehow feels un> ownership over it to the extent that if it isn't done the way they want un> or think it should be done the entire thing needs to be burnt at the un> cross. If you don't like some aspects of the movie, the whole thing is a piece of garbage.
