Those were the days. We used to have grandiose arguments on NIRVANAnet(tm)
regarding locations, as &TOTSE, the primary hub, was in Walut Creek,
realitycheckBBS was in San Francisco, and Burn This Flag was in San Jose. Each
had their own opinions on the best location.

I settled most of the arguments by moving next door to Schmidt's Pub (also
known as THE PUB) in Albany. Guinness and Fullers ESB on tap, front and back
porches, A fireplace for inclement weather, a liberal smoking policy, and we
could retire to the BBS room after closing.

I never got around to running short-haul modems out my window and setting up a
realitycheckBBS node at THE PUB, a year or so before SFNET did the same thing
to coffee shops and laundromats in the Mission district.
