I worked in a music startup in the late '90s and was exposed to an indie music scene I didn't know existed up until then. Drum and Bass was big in the office, we'd signed a couple of small labels, but it all sounded the same to me. Fast forward to 2001. I started playing the MAJESTIC video game in 2001 (that's a whole 'nother story) and scraped the ambient/techno/spooky music that played in the background. That's what normally plays on realitycheckBBS radio (and explains why they're only 64kbps streams). A couple of the songs were listed at "LTJ Bukem", although they were ambient/chill tracks without vocals. That didn't jibe with what I heard when I did an internet search.. As it turns out, the tracks I had were the sources for tracks that LTJ Bukem, MC Conrad and DRS would layer their raps and scratches on top of. It was unlike anything I'd heard. By getting into LTJ Bukem and MC Conrad, I was exposed to some amazing D&B as well as the artists who created the basing tracks. They were all on Good Looking Records, LTJ Bukem's label. I've changed the stream to LTJ Bukem/MC Conrad/DRS's "Progression Sessions" CDs from that time. The tracks vary between atmospheric chill, jazz and DnB with raps and beats added on top.
