Dilip 02 Dec 2020 ======================================================================== Bottae - Kickoff. I came across this idea on that building a gopherspace browser is akin to a jedi building a lightsaber[1]. I like this idea - so I'm starting my own gopher browser. I'm calling it Bottae[2]. I'm writing it entirely in C. I will provide updates to this project as I make progress. I'm expecting progress to be very slow. I like writing *everything* from scratch, and writing *perfect* code, two ingredients that almost guarantee that a project never reaches completion. However, I'm still going to do it this way - because I can. The plan is to build a simple tool to pull gopher sites and render it at first. Then, I'll work on adding navigation to it. Then come fancy features like bookmarks and help menus and all the good stuff. Once all of this is done, I'll take a look at the gemini protocol and see if I can add support for that. This will give me something to look forward to. Notes: ------ 1. I have lost the link to the phlog where I first read this. If you are familiar with the source, please drop me a message. 2. Thomomys bottae, also known as Botta's pocket gopher or the valley pocket gopher, is a pocket gopher native to Western America. It's found in California, I live in California, so this name seems apt
