So something happened - we had very bad weather, snow and wind. And the power lines went down, and we had no power for a looong time. This was a nice test for our server, medialab.freaknet.org, his services (gopher, ssh, etc) and the radio link. Well, the radio link went down a lot - no UPS on one side of it, this must be fixed asap. But at our base, Medialab was attached to our UPS - an old APC 650, with a LOT of batteries connected in parallel. It was a nice test! Medialab now runs on a Thinkpad T23 - it's a laptop, with his own battery, so the UPS is kinda doubled: when it goes down, the laptop battery will go on for another hour, hopefully. We have 6 12V batteries in parallel, for a total of 42A/h. The UPS was running straight 14 HOURS and medialab never went down. So, it worked. Electric service in sicily / Italy is a real MESS. :( END OF MESSAGE END OF TRANSMISSION
