Travelling in the South of France ================================= I am travelling to old cities in the South of France, the Midi. In Nîmes, there are very beautiful roman buildings but in Narbonne, the big roman city left very few. However the people living here have roman virtues: - courage — nobody complaints, even if the city is quite poor; - sense of hospitality — more so than on the French Riviera; - lapidary formulations — a girl explaining to her mother about the family of his boyfriend: "They have a very different standing than we do. They are from north, you see, from north!" - sense of humor and derision — a fourteen year old girl dressed and made up like a twenty-four year old woman surrounded by three boys of the same age saw a seven year old girl carefully eating a huge ice cream. She stops the little troupe by shouting, "Watch out for the lady!" And then to the little girl: "It is safe to go, lady."
