WARNING: Language-filled rant. Product names changed to avoid spider listings. One of the drawbacks of HTTP-to-Gopher proxies. That fucking streaming video platform. I used to love the red N. Recently, I've been super-pissed off by them. Why? Because they added autoplaying commercials to their fucking main page. It's horri-awful. The whole reason I loved the red N was that it was an ad-free experience and access to tons of movies and TV shows. And I said ads: they have 2 sections toward the top dedicated to these obnoxious commercials. Recently (past 2 years or so) they've been falling. They've straight up lost a lot of content and replaced it with inferior content. I get it: competition will outbid you for shows. That's fine. It sucks, but I understand. What I don't understand is why you insist on eye- and ear-fucking me right after I log in with your lame-ass "recommendations." I even called their "help" line to complain about it. The rep refused to acknowledge they were ads. "No, they're recommendations." Fuck you. I generally would just ignore it since banner ads have been around for decades, but when they assault my ears? No. Just no. Fucking Christ. No. To make matters worse, on my cheap POS HTPC stick, the red N app is the only thing that's working somewhat decently for their content. The problem with that metro Win10 app is that the mute button for those shitty ads doesn't fucking work. You HAVE to scroll down just to stop that shit, which is not fun or simple with a remote/tiny 2.4GHz controller. I honestly hate ads. My main reason for watching the red N over the green H was the commercial content, and no, I don't feel like throwing more money at the green H to avoid their shenanigans. Adblock Plus stops that shit. My favorite screen on the green H is seeing their plea for you to whitelist them or "troubleshoot" the fact that you're spending 90 seconds watching a splash screen for ads. I don't care. I love it. I'd rather have 90 seconds to dick around on my phone than listen to an ad or have to mute the TV. I never fucking respond positively to online ads unless I'm seeking out a movie trailer or something. To be fair, I'm okay with non-intrusive ads, but let's face it, about 0.3% of ads are non-intrusive. The vast majority are in your face. Lots are even invisible divs that cover the entire page, although those are on shadier sites. It's still really depressing that the red N has chosen to litter their platform with first party disgusting ads when earlier they seemed committed to deliver an ad-free experience to their paying customers. If I weren't on a shared account for the red N, I might even ragequit their service over this shit.
