So I've recently been more aggressive in backing up my massive video disc collection on G Photos, both for the unlimited free uncompressed storage I got as a perk of buying a Pixel 1, and also because I read that the Pixel 2, which also has/had that perk is removing support after 3 years. Now that doesn't say anything about the Pixel 1, but I wouldn't put it past G to suddenly reneg on the silent contract that made me spend more money on a phone than I have on my most expensive laptop: I get free unlimited storage on Photos for my pics/vids. G already offers free unlimited storage, but it's compressed "high-quality" resolution, which is a no-go for me because I back up the discs as MP4s with subtitle and alternate audio tracks which are lost in the compression process. It's also a pain in the behind to do it all through a 32GB Pixel via the Photos app, but it's not too bad. Considering I have over 400 movies and 10s of series, I've been at this for a long time. It also doesn't help that I change my systematic nomenclature often for organization. Anyways, I know several on Gopher are de-G-ing themselves, but that's just not a real option for me. I'm not totally dependent (I do have plenty of physical storage, but considering a huge reason why I'm still ripping and converting (DVD Decrypter/MakeMKV + Handbrake) is because my HDs decided to power off at the wrong time and the data table was lost, I'm not going to let that happen again. Yeah, HD bays aren't exactly great when it comes to redundant backup. Anyway, I'm still keeping busy personally with that. I've done a ton of backups and the collection, when completely processed, is around 2 TB, it's going to be a while. I even have a CSV text file to keep track of what all I've done. Basically it's a massive undertaking and probably won't be too useful, but at least it's something to do and makes me feel like I'm doing something constructive other than just staring at a computer screen.
