I've been down a rabbit hole recently watching videos about GNU/Linux vs. other operating systems, or namely tracking how many more people are driven away from Win or Rotten Core with their absolute dog-shit decisions. The complaints I once had about GNU/Linux when switching from Win10 more or less boiled down to this: it was not working like my Win10 workflow. I wish I had been smart enough to realize that it was never going to be like that. Linux OSes were never going to be a facsimile replacement for Win. They don't work the same way, and I've come to realize that's a beautiful thing. And I see a lot of people complaining about the fact that they don't work the same way. I liken it to someone complaining that their Xbox game doesn't work in a Playstation. Of course it doesn't. I feel so foolish looking back on it. The controller is different, the ecosystem is different. Even though they both ostensibly play games, they're very much different inside and often have a lot of exclusive tools. Shout-out to BSD, BTW. I think BSD is actually a good solution for less experimental/more mass-user scenarios. I wouldn't necessarily even be able to tell you the difference between BSD and GNU/Linux because they both speak Posix... or Minix or whatever. Although I'm definitely aware that BSD is less popular than Linux OSes and has more hardware restrictions. I don't know if I should be sad, angry, or happy that so many companies are so evil they're pushing more people to free software solutions.
