2019-12-31: Left high and dry rak ================================================================ The other day, I told a friend of mine not to worry, that I would never leave her high and dry. And then I got to thinking: high and dry is *exactly* where I would rather be left. I mean, who would rather be left low and wet, especially in winter? I finally got around to looking up the origin of the expression. It refers to the low tide leaving ships "high and dry", stranded and helpless. If you know of other idioms that don't make any sense unless you know their origins, please let me know. Oh, and happy new year!
