2022-01-23: Click-bait titles at the CBC                     rak

I've noticed that article titles at the CBC are increasingly
reminiscent of click-bait. Here's a sampling from the past few
days:

 * This journalist says Canada saved him. Now he's saving a
   136-year-old Ontario newspaper
 * This Ontario student waited years for justice. Now, the
   accused in her sex assault case won't face trial
 * She thought she bought a home. Now this St. John's woman is
   saddled with a charred former garage.
 * A drug company says a Toronto condo project would threaten
   'national security.' Here's why
 * Russia could be on the brink of invading Ukraine. Here's what
   might happen next

In each case, the pattern is "X. Now Y" or "X. Here's Y", and it
smacks of click bait. Instead, they could have used titles like:

 * Journalist saves 136-year-old Ontario newspaper as act of
   gratitude
 * Man accused of sexual assault by Ontario student won't face
   trial after years-long delay
 * Charred former garage sold to St. John's woman as house
 * Drug company says Toronto condo project would threaten
   'national security' [What would the article be about if not
   the "why"?]
 * What a Russian invasion of Ukraine might entail

In each case, the title is more succinct and less emotive.
