Happy Canada Day [0] to my fellow Canucks. I've been enjoying the summer weather here and trying to spend more time outdoors while I can - mostly walking and riding my bike. We're lucky enough to be within walking distance of downtown, round-trip is about 4km and it's mainly sidewalk, which is convenient. I'll be on vacation in a few weeks and my wife and I are planning a trip to New Brunswick. We've never been to the Atlantic coast of Canada, so I'm excited to make that happen finally. St. John's is about a 10-hour drive for us, so we'll break it up with some camping along the way and get a nice week off together. I'm also playing more role-playing games. I am in two games per week, one face-to-face 5th edition D&D and one with a long-running group of old-school gamers. We are geographically dispersed, so we play online via video chat (on Roll20). The games we play are quite diverse - crossing lots of genres, although we mostly enjoy older games or modern clones of the older games. We all take turns running games, which is what I enjoy the most. Being creative in that way is a nice change from the default consumer state nowadays. My son is in the 5e D&D group, but likes to play Magic (the card game) as well, so I've been playing that with him. We're both beginners, but one of the guys in the D&D group is an experienced player, so we play with him when we get a chance. It's more complex than I imagined, just due to the sheer variety of cards available, and there's quite a lot of strategy involved. [0] gopher://gopherpedia.com/0/Canada%20Day
