Jirka talks about gmail killing their basic HTML interface [0] - I did prefer that interface, both back when I used my own gmail account, and when I worked for a company that used google apps. I can confirm, it was much faster than the default interface. Since I still have a google account for use with my android phone, and I never use gmail anymore, I made my gmail address effectively read-only by setting up a forward to my real email, and just filter everything that comes in into a separate folder. That way I can at least reply and tell whoever to use the new email. Although that hasn't happened in a long time. And the upgrade treadmill is pretty frustrating when it comes to web applications. Requiring a "newer" browser or even a specific one (chrome/edge seems to be the choice of our corporate overlords here) to support some bit of cargo-cult javascript that isn't necessary anyway is annoying as hell.
