Captain's Phlog 2020.03.13 _____________________________________________________________ Perhaps You'd Call This My Bible: Today, I caught up with an old friend. My favorite book is The Prophet [1] by Kahlil Gibran. I am not Religious. I am not even exceptionally Spiritual and tend to eschew what I'd term "mumbo jumbo" when I'm being kind. However something about this book has always spoken to me. It's a short read and accessible - its setting sort of reminding me of the sort of iron age seaport one might encounter in a D&D campaign. In 1923, this Lebanese poet poured his soul into pages that waited just for me for over half a century. How many times have a savored each and every word of this masterpiece? I do not know, but add today to the tally. Chokran Moallim! If I Could Have a Super Power: I actually would be horrified if I ever received a super power. I know me and it's safe to say that I wouldn't wind up using it for good. Sure, I'd start out all noble and stuff but after a very short time I'm pretty certain I'd be force choking fools for the most minor infractions. Being the forward thinking sort, I've settled on my response for when a djin "grants me a boon" (curses me). They will call me... FLOWCHART MAN! ...I'll wait for the epicness of that to wash over you. Yes, Flowchart Man. I figure that not only will the world be fairly safe with my relatively benign ability but it would also further my agenda of fewer fools breathing the air. Briefly, Flowchart Man has the ability to materialize a flowchart out of nowhere. In doing so I (excuse me I have to get used to my secret identity) "He" looks like he's pulling down an old-timey roller map thingy with his hand. The thingy contains a diagram or flowchart on whatever topic is in question. At this point he would use said chart as a visual aid in explaining that topic to his audience. The explanation would be absolutely correct and so COMPELLING that witnesses would immediately understand the topic fully and clearly see the indicated solution. It sucks I know, but at least it would slow down my ability to go all Parallax and destroy the multiverse. I'm curious. What work of literature has uniquely touched YOUR life? Too, what superpower will you ask for when this worrisome djin pays YOU a visit? Time for tea... [1] http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/58585 0x04 [EOT]
