Jello Biafra & Mojo Nixon -- Prairie Home Invasion

I really have to explain why I decided to pull up
my roots at tildecow.com and swap them for a
sterile plasticrete pod in Mare Serenitatis. I
should have done this in 'Exodus'. That would have
been thematic at any rate. Obviously I missed my
deadline. Urp.

I do have them - reasons that is... They just
aren't really COMPELLING. But here goes.

(A) The Circumlunar Universe entices me. Many of
my favorite gophers live here and while we don't
have a monopoly on glib and cogent phlogery, we
have our share for sure. In addition to
gophoolery, there are several other vectors for
communal life including a bbs, irc, yadda yadda ad
nauseam. Communal.

(2) I was just using tildecow.com for the sake of
USING it. It will be months until my domain
expires and well why not use it? So I set up an
unused Acer Netbook with the sole purpose of
running gophernicus and there it sat patiently
sucking amps, generating BTUs and serving two
gophers per hour & two Russian hackers every
minute. Wasteful really.

(A*2) I've been gophering for 7 months now. Before
I got here, I was enamored of HTML pre-3.0 which
afforded a more text-centric experience than the
modern web. It was... nice. But what it wasn't was
genuine. I could make web pages that would have
been state of the art on Geocities but the fact
that I was purposefully AIMING for a retro
aesthetic was lost on everyone. They'd look, pause,
and say "that's nice". Patronizing.

Once I even tried to make a faux-gopher page in
HTLM. I admit it. Oddly, it was harder to do
than creating the same content in gopher. Live &
learn. Perhaps if I had a NEED to create a
'Product' on the net I'd hold The Web in higher
regard but I don't - so I don't.

What I do regard highly are the handful of folks
who've told me they enjoy my content and the
phlogs I come back to again and again. The main
stream can keep their four digit likes and three
digit shares - I have gopher - and a plasticrete
pod on Level 4 Section B of Mare Serenitatis.
