[NYPLAN help file (2 pages)]

For several years now there has been  a  new  type  of  program  on  the
software market, commonly called a "spread-sheet".  Typical paradigms of
this sort of program are products like DIGICALC and VISICALC which  many
of  you  may have heard of.  We now have a similar program on the system
called NYPLAN.  The general idea of this sort of  program  is  that  you
define rows and columns of numbers (sometimes, other sorts of data items
as well as numbers) and define arithmetic relationships between the rows
and  columns.  Then, if you change a number, or create a new number, all
the other numbers that depend on it change as well.  For example:

The program (NYPLAN, in this case) will fill  in  the  line  and  column
totals for you.

For more information on NYPLAN, you can print the document by typing:

          PRINT DOC:NYPLAN.DOC/FORMS:NARROW

To run NYPLAN, you execute the command:

          R NYPLAN

When NYPLAN runs, it requires a file to be in your  directory  called  a
CONFIGURATION file.  To copy a basic CONFIGURATION file to your account,
execute this command:

          FCOPY = SYS:CONFIG.NYE

See APPENDIX A of  NYPLAN.DOC  for  details  about  the  nature  of  the
CONFIGURATION file.

NYPLAN  has  a  lot  of  potent  capabilities  for  financial  modeling,
book-keeping,  statistics,  graphics and data manipulation.  We think it
is a pretty good package and encourage you to give it a try.

The documentation for NYPLAN is a little bit scanty.  You  can  purchase

Note that when you specify files to NYPLAN, it ignores the extension and
invents its own extensions.

NYPLAN currently supports four classes of terminals: VT100s, VT52s, Z19s
and  H19s,  and  hard-copy  [and/or unknown other] terminals.  The fancy
screen-editing stuff will only work on the video terminals.
