I'm supposed to be done buying old computers, but last week I accidently bought a Macintosh Performa 475 from a IT recycle center. I offered half their asking price on a whim, and when they accepted, I felt obligated to buy it. It's actually a really fun little computer. In 1993, when this computer was released, I wouldn't have touched it with a ten-foot-pole. I was heavy into the BBS scene and the OS/2 scene, and wanted nothing to do with those weak little black-and-white non-multitaskers. My connotation with Apple computers in those days was this strange guy named Bob who lived in my dorm. He had his family's old mac, which I believe was either a Plus or a SE. My friend Eric and I would swing by his room mostly to just make fun of his computer. Today, I find old macs in general to be charming little pieces of ancient tech. They have an interface that leaves a general impression of their day, but still remains slightly unfamiliar (and exotic) to me. It's kind of like using Windows 3.x, but without the memo ries of just what a pain in the ass Windows was when it was the daily driver you counted on.
