I grew up in English Canada, but attended French Immersion schools. While a lot of Canadians have mixed things to say about French Immersion, I am very in favor. It opened up a lot of doors for me. I moved to Quebec and then to France and met and befriended people that I would not have been able to even have a conversation with otherwise. I had jobs that would have otherwise been unavailable to me.

So while Canada's bilingual education policy catches a lot of criticism, especially in Western Canada, I am in favor. Canada has the good fortune to have linguistic diversity that is supported by the state; it is wise to take advantage of the opportunities that this provides.
