Ok. So I've made it to my second phlog. So far, so good. I am 57 years old next month. My workplace ran a retirement seminar the other day. I'm not sure it was what I thought it would be. I imagined talk about tranisition to retirement strategies at work, financial planning, investment advice - stuff like that. Well, it wasn't like that at all. The focus was on retiring with good mental health. You need to have your mental health in order before you retire. The statistics on male suicide rates in Australia are frightening. The rate for retirees is on the bad end of the scale. What did I learn? That the worst thing you can do is be socially isolated. Loneliness is a killer. I'm going to get back into hobbies I dropped years ago due to time demands of work and family. I'm going to reconnect with people and make an effort. 90% of success is just showing up ;-) --- bradmac@freeshell.org
