We are implementing a new surveying system at work - moving from 2D
total survey stations to 3D lidar scanning. We are using proprietory
software to process the point cloud.  I want to learn more about how
point cloud processing works.  I'm looking for open source software
that runs on Linux to play with at home.  

I've got a lot to learn it seems. The best way to learn is to dive in
and immerse yourself - well, for me anyway.
