It's been quite a while. I've been very busy at work, and trying to do too much in between. I did a professional development course a couple of weeks ago that focussed on unconscious biases, mental health and whole brain thinking. A lot of it was too academic for me, and the people presenting come from a very different workplace to the one I manage. I think a lot of what they said was nice, but totally impractical in a busy and dynamic workplace. One thing that did hit a chord with me is how important it is as a leader / manager to maintain my own mental health. I've focused a lot on my physical health this year, and I'm happy with where I am at the moment in that regard. I have not given mental health any real focus since the start of the year. So, to remedy that I've started practising gratefulness again, and doing one 10 minute mindful meditation session per day. I think it is helping. I've noticed my mood being more stable and my ability to cope with stress is improving. --- 2018-08-14 bradmac@sdf.org
