++++ 8/29/2022 ++++ My internet has an end. I am going to repeat that, my internet *has an end.* ... It's an amazing thing, and also it is amazing that it seems amazing, when you think about it... Right now I am on a fast from YouTube which started in August and I plan to stretch through September [1]. With other things I have gotten rid of, that leaves me a very small internet to check indeed. Here's what I check: my email, Ran Prieur, the ERE bulletin board -- filtered by recent, and then I am done. Today all of this was done under two minutes, since there wasn't anything new. At first, it's an odd feeling-- this being done with the internet -- but only because of the internet's reputation, and, of course, habit. ... At other times of the day, I do allow myself Spotify, but that has become no problem. I listen to snarky leftists or quite thoroughly British historians while I do chores, and then sometimes, such as clerical work, I'll play my Playlist on random -- though even then I often just prefer http://ubuntu.hbr1.com:19800/trance.ogg which I have a script that I can play without leaving command line. All of this frees me up to get information from books, often printed books, but also digitial copies. === [1] I so enjoy having the full range of attention and not having that "scroll sickness" that I think I will try to always take two months off YouTube and then check in for a day, then back to two months off. For my first check-in day, I have some things about birds I want to look at. -- This work is hereby in the public domain. Do what you want with it.
