I will be taking a vacation to the great state of
California in a few days. Alas that means that I 
won't be able to keep my phlog updated (not that I
was particularly good about it anyways)

California is a strange place. It's understandable
how it got to be so popular so quickly but a lot of its
problems in the modern era are particularly dire.

The old adage is that California has wonderful 
weather and outdoors but you pay an exorbitant
amount for it. But over the history of modern
california, its residents have certainly not shied
away from paying the "california tax."

I think that may be changing as sadly, climate change
is causing that great California weather to become
something that is increasingly fleeting. 

Extreme drought and wild fires are particularly 
worrisome. 

and we haven't even gotten started on the political
and social aspects of California...but that's for
another post.

but it is a beautiful state once you get out of the
cities and if you've never visited, you should
probably go sooner rather than later.
