2023-12-28 Please note that I'm about to rant about a decidely first world problem. You have been warned. I just got an email today about how Amazon Prime video titles will now include advertising when watching them. Like what is even the point of streaming services? You were supposed to be better than cable...You were the chosen one! I'm probably in the minority of customer base but i do not watch TV series or streaming series. I am a movie watcher only. I don't care for binge watching long TV series. This makes me quite a bad fit for streaming services nowadays. Keeping a wide catalog of great movies is apparently quite expensive now and is something that netflix no longer wants to spend on. I was most recently reminded of this when I wanted to put on Die Hard for Christmas. Netflix didn't have it and I honestly couldn't be bothered figuring out which service actually had it available. Sure I get it, all the movie studios woke up and stopped wanting netflix to eat their lunch. But the reality is that I'm not going to subscribe to multiple streaming services just to watch all the movies I can get. Paying for Netflix and an Amazon Prime membership is expensive enough, much less disney+, HBO Max, or whatever the million other services there are. In any case, I go down to my local charity shop and can pick up perfectly useable DVDs for quite literally 50 cents. yes, getting up and putting a disc in the machine is annoying but if it annoys you enough to learn how to rip DVDs and encode the video files...then that's a skillset worth learning in my opinion. have a happy new year folks!
