------------------------------------------------- Title: Decloudify Continues Date: 2022-11-17 Device: Laptop Mood: Sober. ------------------------------------------------- The slow grind of the decloudify project continues. To date, I think we have: - Moved about 100 applications away from AWS-based hosting and dependencies, back to containers hosted on bare metal. - Removed about 50 API-based messaging services back to traditional SMTP. - Moved about 5TB of data away from S3, over to just plain-old-Linux with nginx. I spent today removing the remaining ECR repositories which were storing a container images for the applications; 500GB of historic images! I'm really enjoying watching the crypto space burn down. The fucking grifters deserve to lose everything. I was at a Goldman Sachs forum in London a few weeks back discussing the future of crpyto in charitable giving. I felt like the only sane person in the room. It was like a parallel world. The room was filled with executives from huge charities (real A-lists, managing GBP100m+ of donations per year), who were so hell-bent on 'investing' donor funds in crypto, and all I want to to is hold them by the shoulders and shake them: "do you not realise the collapse is happening RIGHT NOW". It's terrifying to realise how much money is being managed by idiots. And sobering when you realise that so much of the 'vision' of crypto has been lost in centralisation -- and now the end is on the horizon. --C
