Burned body found near football pitch in Motherwell

A burned body has been found near a football pitch in Motherwell.

Police were called to Margaret Drive in the North Lanarkshire town at
about 09:00 following the discovery.

The gender of the person has not been confirmed but the BBC
understands their remains had been burned.

The force said officers remain in the area and inquiries are ongoing.
A spokesperson added the death is being treated as unexplained.
