As the wider internet became increasingly more samey, sterile, and bloated with Javascript, a group of people turned to alternative protocols that better suited their needs and visions of what the internet could be.

That group is us. We are the smallnet. We chose personalized blogs over the samey social media profiles, the decentralized over the centralized, more text focused sites over bunches of pictures. With no character limits, thoughts can be fully fleshed out rather than slimmed down for the microblogging sites.

From Gopher to Gemini and Webrings, we collaborate and create, rather than compete for fame and fortune.
