I've been using FreeBSD and OpenBSD on and off for about the last 8 years. Started out with FreeBSD after running Slackware and Apache server for about 6 months to host my domain out of my home. I used an account at mydomain.com to provide stealth redirection to my router which forwarded port 80 calls to my server. IP address wasn't guaranteed static, but it seldom changed. Ran FreeBSD and Apache for another year, hosting the domain, then had to let it go for a business pursuit that eventually didn't pan out. Now I'm back to hacking around on my computers at home and getting ready to get another domain possibly. I run OpenBSD 3.9 on an old HP Netserver circa '98, a not quite so old home built PIII, and an old Toshiba 4015CDT laptop. Got another home built PIII running XP, but that's for when I'm feeling lazy. I hope to eventually be able to pay back the BSD projects for all they've done for me and so many others, by having a domain with enough gigs per month to be able to run a mirror for at least one of the projects. Meantime, I'm currently involved in trying to learn more about pf, multimedia, printing, et al. Got an old Aprioris from a friend who had it given to him from a local yacht club after hurricane Katrina. It's got 6 1G drives and, being old and expendable, it's a good candidate to practice on. I was also given a Dell 2.22 Celeron which I added an extra hard drive to, a new hotter video card instead of using the integrated one, and 1.5G of RAM instead of the 384 it came with. I also put in an extra fan to make sure things stayed cool. Then, on top of all the other good luck, a friend sent me a 2.66 P4 cpu, so I swapped the old one out and installed it. Now all I need are possibly some street slicks, flames on the side and a coon tail on the antenna and I'll be set. ;) I hope to publish as many help files and tutorials here as time permits. And, it'll help me learn more about gopher. My blog is at: http://polarwave.blogspot.com Email me at : dancer68 at sdf dot lonestar dot org
