It's come to my attention that all I ever really talk about is class/school related stuff (if it isn't a rant). Which isn't necessarily the only thing I have going on, but there really isn't much else. I've been trying to pay more attention to music and scrobbling my listens on last.fm. As well as trying to grow my record collection a little more. Of course, records are an antiquated format for music when there are superior lossless modes available. But the feeling of holding a record that was made decades before my birth brings about pleasant thoughts of the many owners that this record must have gone through before coming into my posession. I've recently purchased a couple of Sun Ra records, a wonderful jazz artist I discovered through Madlib/MF DOOM's 'Shadows of tomorrow'. I'm really not a fan of big band jazz, but Sun Ra's Arkestra is very evocative in the way they play. They are actually (much to my surprise) going to be playing at my University on the 25th of March! I'll probably have classes going on around then, but there's no way I could miss an opportunity to see them live. Especially with the current band leader turning 98 in May. It may well be the last opportunity there'll be to see the Arkestra in its current incarnation. The Sun Ra's Arkestra is also going to be playing in Chicago, which I am also going to attend. I'd like to bring my girlfriend along, but perhaps the jazz history course she took isn't enough to get her super interested in the music.. Or whether her parents let her go out so late at night (We're the same age fyi)
