1 September 2011 Thinking and finding out about the Kindle3 and using my gopherspace as a place to store txt, pdfs and ebooks so that these are availabe to me. Althoug the experimental browser in Kindle is not gopheraware the new gopherproxy site http://gopherproxy.org/ is ideal to get into the gophershere via a browser. I would assume its clear design would display well on the Kindle. I have yet to findout if there are any online ftp programs to allow me to upload txt files to my gopherspace. As a UK purchaser I cannot buy the Notes app available on amazon shop in the USA, which creates txt files, perhaps the clippings.txt with additional notes can be used instead? Comments if anybody is reading this to edgeways at sdf.lonestar.org 11 November 2010 Still here I am thinking about an iPad and wondering if gopher would work and whether the browser would show up gopher links? 13 December 2009 SDF has set a way of showcaseing plogs or glogs Wish I could master using gopher someday when retired - and that's soon! 01 April 2009 April Fools Day! 03 March 2009 Looked at gophery things again and remain interested but no time at present to progress. The fact of the Overbite Project makes one rather excited for Gophers future. 24 August 2008 Now have Firefox portable working on my memory stick with Overbite working intermittently. The Firefox representation of file icons are very satisfactory. Spent a lot of time adding and deleting the .links .names .abstract files but with no change in the way my gopher appeared. I don't know unix so find using the SDF computer via telnet very off putting and intimadating. Had hoped that I could change things with RemotePad and ftp. Does the gopher server on SDF have different conventions or perhaps I need to change the premissions on the files? 22 August 2008 I am searching for a simple tutorial or guide to uploading my files to gopher and getting them to display well. Seems that I need files with a fullstop (dot) before the file name, to show extra information. Also to put other gopher links in as well. If anybody is reading this and knows what to do, then let me know at edgeways@sdf.lonestar.org. Thanks. At present uploading text files using a little program called RemotePad, a text editor and ftp combined. 20 August 2008 Overbite addition to Firefox browser displays gopher well but I can't get it to work off the memory stick 18 March 2008 Have tried using K-Meleon http://kmeleon.sourceforge.net/ as a browser, this too appears to show gopher sites well and also runs off a memory stick. 16 March 2008 Just a word here as I explore gopherspace. I am thinking about text and its use. Much taken with the ideas of using simple text and a text editor to create content without the compexity of formatting. Site to explore are URL:http://txt2tags.sf.net/ I am exploring the use of gopher and find that lots of other sorts of files can be displayed and gopher and the web may be used in combination. The fact that a variety of diffent file formats can be seen - eg pdf,mp3,text,gif and html makes gopherspace a potentially useful place for sharing information.
