A day where I just let myself relax, do some little something on my light-task todo list, and call it good. It's my way to continue recovering from excessive stress, while still maintaining the slight productivity needed to keep myself in check. Today, I managed to accomplish a few items on that list. First of all, I managed to get my Debian 12 VM in Parallels to go into native resolution (1440x900) for my MacBook Pro. It runs WindowMaker most of the time, and I don't use a display manager, so doing that took a bit of trial and error, until I noticed `xrandr` was showing it as a display mode. So, one little line got added to my `.xinitrc` before executing my window manager: xrandr --output default --mode "1440x900" By adding that, I can run WindowMaker (and other WMs) at native resolution in FullScreen Mode when I want to. And I'm happy, as it looks quite nice on this laptop's screen, especially compared to the Dell Latitude E6430 I was using for a Linux box prior. |~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~| And speaking of window managers, I got CDE running in that same VM. I never got a chance to use CDE in its original context, but I did use it at one point under Ubuntu while back. Really wanted to get back to that, and I'm so happy I managed to make it work. For a window manager, CDE is quite nice. I definitely prefer WindowMaker and the NextStep-style UI, but with a more Windows 3.1 look-and-feel, it's not like I'm out of my element either. Still got a lot to learn about the UI and how things work, but that'll come with time. I didn't learn WindowMaker or OpenStep in a day, much less the 3 or so hours I've had to play with this one. It did make me pine for the days of Enlightenment and Metacity, though. The UIs of today just give me way too much eye strain with the flat designs. |~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~| To round things off, I also managed to completely finish my to-be-read (TBR) queue of short stories that had been sitting on my iPad for a good several months. *That* felt amazing, and while I have a number of books to at least try to go through, the load feels a lot lighter after that got checked off my list. Now, if only I could go through my blog reading list in the same way... \~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~/
