(2023-04-21) Waiting So I'm still waiting for the internet to be installed. Go live date is the 3rd May, which is around a week and a half away. The family are still annoyed by the lack of Netflix/Disney+/online gaming etc. but my frustrations are more ethereal in nature. While my wife requires internet access primarily for her studies and gaming, and my son primarily for his gaming and homework, my need is of a more psychological nature. I've been enamoured with this interconnected system of networks ever since my first forays into dialup BBSes and my very first internet connection (which came from a 3.5 inch floppy disk containing compuserv software) and being disconnected is quite an alien feeling to me, even if its not 100% offline thanks to things like WiFi hotspots and mobile phone tethering. To this end and to get my "fix" I've inadvertantly created my own little microcosm of an internet by repuposing the various raspberry pis, desktop machine and old laptops into dns servers, web servers, gopher and gemini servers and other handy little services. I may have a problem... and that problem is that I am having too much fun doing this.
