I've been fascinated with Moebius (aka Jean Giraud) since I was at the University. I used to go to this comic store and I discovered Moebius there and I thought that was the best thing I've seen in comics. I still do. I recently read Incal and I remembered why I like Moebius so much: the story (by Jodorowsky) was chaotic but the drawing was an absolute masterpiece. Looking at Moebius work you get this feeling that you're entering a different world and you just want to keep going staying within this world as much as you can. Every single frame is brilliant and has so much detail in it, yet everything looks easy and natural at the same time. I've recently also read "World of Edena" a lifetime Moebius work of which I had read pieces of in the past: this was different, more mature, complicated but equally masterful in-terms of drawing. The story (by Moebius himself) was borderline surreal but it was serving as a passport to the drawing again, it didn't really matter much. I could read anything by Moebius and I wouldn't mind at all even if I don't get the story. You now understand why the French classify comics as art. His whole work is now being reissued by Dark Horse. It was about time as it's exceptionally difficult to find. Even classics like "Airtight Garage" or "The Long tomorrow" (whose visual style Ridley Scott copied on Blade Runner) are not available in English. henrycase@sdf.org
