---------------------------------------------------------------------- Atari vcs 06/14/2021 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- It seems Atari has released a new console for the first time in decades, well "console" is maybe a stretch as it is a mini computer with a custom front-end. It also has the same name as the first Atari, which is sure to clog search results. The new Atari has some good points as it is a full computer with upgrade potential, and runs Linux. But it costs $400. I guess as a mini computer thats not bad, but who would get this for Atari games? for that money you could buy a real vcs/2600 with a good selection of games or a switch with Atari flashback. Not to mention Atari compilations and mini consoles have been around for years , and its not a hard console to emulate. There is also the problem that many very goodgames can't be included because of licensing (space invaders, pac-man, ET, etc.) or they were published by another company (imagic, activision). What im trying to say is that its a really baffling system and I don't know who would have backed the kickstarter, or why. Maybe if they added 8bit/st/lynx/jaguar, but its just the usual arcade and 2600 games with a few 5600/7800 versions thrown in. Even then $400 is a steep price. It's just weird. ----------------------------------------------------------------------
