# [2018.12.19] Shoot in the Foot When I tried to 'harden' my `postfix` installation, I probably overreached myself a bit and set the parameter `inet_interfaces` to `loopback-only` which actually meant not to receive any mail from the outside world at all. Unfortunately, `postfix` doesn't apply this exact preference without being restarted (namely one should stop it and then start again, issuing the reload command does not suffice), so I set it, checked that everything worked after reloading `postfix` and was happy with that. Then I don't remember why but I needed to restart the server on the 15 Dec. So for several days, 15-17 Dec, I was not able to receive any emails to my self-hosted account. I should probably add some monitoring (and even alerting) for such cases.
