IRIS Indigo + XFig 3.2 ====================== Yesterday I did go through compilation of the current XFig on the IRIX 5.3. The SGI Freeware for IRIX 5.3 includes the XFig 3.1 which is a bit old and cannot open newer XFig files (even on the oldest Linux systems, like thee RedHat 5.0, was the XFig 3.2.x which has different data format, thus all of my pictures are in the 3,2 format). So I had to find and compile the newer version from sources. It was easier than I initialy thought. The (well-commented) Imakefile has to be edited and then was only needed "xmkmf -a; make". I decided to link the XFig against the standard Xaw toolkit and not against the more modern Xaw3d which I don't have on my machine. So the GUI is more flat and ugly but equally functional. For some reasons, it ignores my .Xdefaults file but at least colors and fonts can be set by command line switches. The key-bindings works. So, I finally do have a working XFig on the Indigo!. One of the reasons why I do use XFig is an unavailability on a proper 2D CAD software on many systems. Today there is LibraCAD/QCAD but they require quite modern OSes (the only QCAD-compatible IRIX is 6.5). So I keep use the always working solution. But there is a way to open DXF files with the XFIg [1] it one needs that. Reference: [1] http://ta.twi.tudelft.nl/ftp/dv/lemmens/dxf2fig.tar.gz
