New LCD

I  have got  a new  LCD monitor.  A sort  of: it  is the  old ViewSonic
VP2030b  (it's  20"   screen  with  1600x1200  resolution   and  is  is
Sync-On-Green capable).

For a  long time I  wished to  get a better  LCD for my  old computers.
Because I have several SGI  workstation which require the sync-on-green
and non-wide monitors, the  possible candidates were somewhat limited).
As I  have had  the ViewSonic  VP171 LCD  for long  time, I  have green
searching for similar device with bigger screen.

The VP2030  is my  second attempt to  buy such thing  on the  eBay. The
first one  newer reached me for  some reason. There were  problems also
with this one.  I won the auction  for a different (older)  one but the
seller informed me that they have had  an error in their system and the
monitor  which I  won is  not available.  They offered  me a  choice of
different ones  (one wide-screen LCD  and this VP2030). I  selected the
VP2030. Until this point there was no problem.

Yesterday  the parcel  arrive. The  post company  informed me  that the
package is slightly damaged. OK, it  happens sometimes. But this time I
have found  that there is a  problem: not only the  package was heavily
damaged but the  monitor was also damaged, The plastics  at the top and
at the back side of the  screen were damaged and partially scattered...
Well,  I glued  the  bigger pieces  together  and now  the  90% of  the
plastics are on the right places. Of course it does not look well.

Fortunately, the  screen itself is  mostly OK  and it works.  Yes, it's
more than 10  years old and the picture is  somewhat yellowish. But the
colors on my SGI 1600SW LCDs are not better.

But  for  some  reason,  the  screen  has  problems  with  some  modern
computers.  For  example,  it  refuses  to show  anything  when  it  is
connected to a  modern notebook (with Win10). And when  it is connected
via the  VGA input, it  is not possible  to get better  resolution than
1024x768 it it  is connected to a  Linux computer. It the  DVI input is
used (even with the VGA-DVI cable) then everything works as expected.

Thus I  can use the  LCD with  my Lenovo x61  laptop which works  as my
secondary home workstation.

Now the  SGIs... To be  honest, I wanted such  LCD because I  wanted to
have  a 1600x1200  monitor  for  my SGI  Octane.  The  Octane with  the
SolidImpact  graphics should  be capable  of that  (even the  older SGI
Indigo2  is).  But my  Octane  is  not.  It  simply refuses  to  accept
existence of higher resolutions than 1280x1024...

So now I'm searching  the WWW [1] and trying to find  what is wrong and
if there is a proper *.vfo file for the Octane/SI and for 1600x1200...
