IR turned  on by default?

For some reason the Palm OS 4.1  on my Palm IIIx always switches the IR
receiver after any sync operation (I  mean sync via the cradle!). There
is nu warning. It eats battery, of course.

No one OS 3 device behaves like this. Might it be an OS bug?
