Indigo 2 install (another attempt) ================================== I'm continuing to try to make my SGI Indigo 2 alive. It is a latest model (MIPS R10000 CPU, SolidImpact gfx) donated by Logout. I had dead HDD so I replaced it with my spare 2 GB SCSI disk. I wrote about that some time ago. The next step was installation. I had to find my original IRIX media. At the end I decided to ordered another set from the eBay (in order to not to damage my original ones as my CD-ROM drive was somewhat strange). When I got and prepared the media then my poor old external Toshiba CD-ROM died. The external box was OK but the drive itself was not. It was my only external CD-ROM which was able to boot the IRIX. SO I had to find a replacement. I found one here in the Czech republic. It was just a drive and visibly much more used than my old one. It it has been to read CD media (and also to boot the IRIX)! It has been the model XM-5401B (the same as the original drive) so it is double-speed read-only drive. So, I started the installation as always [1]. It gone well but at the end the system refuses to boot... Thus I will have to investigate the issue next year. ************* * PF 2019 ! * ************* References: [1] http://www.sgidepot.co.uk/6.5inst.html
